Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

The COTA will implement an individual patient therapy care plan that has been prepared by the Occupational Therapist and work under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist. Your essential responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

How to make an impact:

  • Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and heat, sound, water, and electrical modality treatments (if certified) such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, and hot and cold packs.
  • Instructs, motivates, and assists clients to learn and improve functional activities such as functional transfers and daily living activities.
  • Observes clients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and reports orally or in writing to Occupational Therapist.
  • Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains residents in use and care of wheelchairs, hand splints, orthopedic braces and adaptive equipment.
  • Confers with members of occupational/physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate client information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Gives orientation to new Occupational Therapist Assistants/Students
  • Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
  • Measures resident's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist Occupational Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
  • Communicates effectively with all those providing care including all members of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT)
  • Guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning.
  • Responsible for documentation of patient’s progress through monthly progress notes as well as daily check ins/out of clients in therapy to ensure all patients on the schedule are treated.
  • Ensure that the rehab gym is clean and tidy, equipment is placed back to where it belongs; equipment and exposed surfaces are sanitized in between clients and provide a safe working environment for patients and staff.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Clear / Active COTA Licensed in the state of Florida
  • 2 years of current SNF / LTC experience required
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance in the State of Florida.
  • 2 years of experience with a minimum of one year experience with the frail and elderly.
  • Reliable transportation to meet visit schedule.
  • Ability to use equipment with visual and auditory mechanisms.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Flexible schedule to meet the needs of participants.
  • Ability to physically access any home i.e. navigate stairs and narrow spaces, tolerate heat and lack of air conditioning, in any area Company serves. Ability to manage stress.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions and physical requirements (including but not limited to: lifting participants and/or equipment, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling) of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
