Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Provides technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to clients ofMercyOneCentral IowaMedical Center. Technical support includes the preparation and delivery of medications and sterile products, stocking and ordering of drugs and other products. Technical work is performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates, anddemonstratesthe Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Prepares medication orders.
Deliversmedications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
Credits to the patient andrestocksusable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
Assiststhe pharmacists with audits and completes assigned unit inspections.
Restocksautomated medication dispensing machines.
Restockstackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), andcompletescheck in/out process.
Communicates stockutilizationand ordering needs.
Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes following strictly described, specific policies and procedures.
Provides training and mentoring to new employees andassistsin directing workflow as needed.
Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and proceduresin order toensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA.
PTCB nationally certified technicians do NOTrequireHS diploma or GED.
National Pharmacy Technician Certification and Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire andproof of.
Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Mustpossessa personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:(Constant = 67-100% of workday, Frequent = 34-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)
CONSTANT:
Standing: Filling medication orders
Walking: Delivering medications to patient rooms, filling activities in the pharmacy.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideasby means ofthe spoken word to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers.
Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communications with co-workers.
FREQUENT:
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) to remove medications from shelves.
Stooping: Bendingbodyat the waist while retrieving medications from shelves.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position with a weight range of 0-20 pounds.
Fingering and handling: Working primarily with the fingers to type and/or fingers and palm to pick up medications, medication bags, IV bags, and bottles.
OCCASIONAL:
Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs by choice, delivering stat medications, orin the event ofelevator malfunction.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to move carts forward while delivering medications to patient care areas.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position with a weight range of 30-50 pounds.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to move carts backward while delivering medications to patient care areas.
VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:
Reading computer generated labels and fill sheets, labels on products, and other documents.
Work with computers, pneumatic tubesystem, and automated equipment.
INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability tomaintaina high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment.
Adaptability to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances, or standards.
Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
Ability tomaintainconfidentiality of patient information.
Must be able to set andorganize one'sown workpriorities andadapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
Mustpossessthe ability tocomply withTrinity Health policies and procedures.
Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health sites as needed.
