Job Description

Overview

We’re hiring a Welder / Fabricator with CWI credentials for a unique, "dual-threat" role where your hands-on skill is just as important as your inspection expertise. This is the perfect position for a high-level professional who wants to maintain their AWS certification without leaving the shop floor for a desk.

To be clear: this is a "hands-on" welding role with part-time CWI responsibilities. You will spend the majority of your time actively fabricating and welding high-quality frames, panels, and custom assemblies for the aerospace, defense, and national security sectors. When a specific project requires CWI oversight, you will step into that inspector role—managing documentation, verifying materials, and certifying welds against AWS D1.1, D1.7, and ASME B31.3 standards. Once the inspection is complete, you’re right back on the floor with the team.

The ideal candidate has a "builder" mindset—someone who takes immense pride in their own beads but has the technical eye to sign off on the final product. If you’re a CWI who still loves getting your hands dirty and wants to stay sharp on the torch, we want to talk to you.

Compensation

  • $30 - $35 / hr base

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision
  • PTO
  • 401(k) with incredibly generous company match
  • Annual bonuses

Schedule:

  • 1st Shift | Core hours 7:00am – 3:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Precision Fabrication: Cut, join, and fabricate metal parts (frames and panels) from start to finish using MIG and TIG processes.
  • CWI Inspection (Part-Time): Act as the on-site subject matter expert to determine if welds meet acceptance criteria for AWS and ASME codes.
  • Technical Documentation: Manage qualification records and ensure all CWI-related paperwork is filled out with 100% accuracy for customer submission.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex mechanical drawings, compound angles, and exacting tolerances to plan the proper sequence of tasks.
  • Testing Oversight: Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) and ensure proper materials are available and verified during the testing phase.
  • Fixture Design: Design and create custom fixtures to aid in the fabrication of parts for various production runs.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on welding units and fabrication tools to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Process Optimization: Suggest design or process changes to engineering staff to improve producibility and manufacturing efficiency.

  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using a wide variety of measuring instruments (micrometers, gauges) and shop tools (plasma cutters, chop saws).

Preferred

  • Industry Background: Experience working on projects for aerospace, defense, or national security.
  • Advanced Education: Trade school certification or an Associate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology.
  • Logistics Skills: Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes.
