Director of Finance & Operations (Venture Capital)
San Francisco Bay Area | Flexible / Hybrid Structure
Company Profile
We are partnering with an early-stage venture capital firm based in San Francisco that invests in innovative, science-driven companies across life sciences and technology. The firm operates with a small, highly collaborative team and is focused on building a strong institutional platform while maintaining the agility of an early-stage investor.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance & Operations will own the firm’s financial and operational infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring that fund operations, financial management, investor reporting, and internal systems run efficiently and reliably, enabling the investment team to focus on core strategic activities.
This is a high-autonomy role suited for an individual who is comfortable operating independently and building scalable processes within a growing firm. The role is an addition to staff and will report to the firm’s partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Fund & Financial Operations
- Oversee fund and management company financial operations
- Coordinate with fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel
- Manage capital calls, distributions, and cash flow planning
- Review financial statements and LP reporting materials for accuracy and completeness
Investor Reporting & Coordination
- Coordinate quarterly and annual LP reporting cycles
- Ensure reporting deliverables are accurate, timely, and professionally presented
- Maintain organized financial records and reporting documentation
- Support investor communications with reliable financial data
Operational Infrastructure & Systems
- Design and maintain operational workflows and systems
- Ensure fund and reporting tools are properly configured and maintained
- Maintain clean, structured data and document systems
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
Process & Scalability
- Develop and maintain SOPs across finance and operations
- Translate informal workflows into scalable, repeatable processes
- Support operational continuity as the firm grows
Compliance & Vendor Management
- Coordinate compliance requirements with external counsel
- Ensure regulatory and reporting obligations are met
- Manage relationships with external service providers
Qualifications
- Experience in venture fund operations, fund administration, or outsourced CFO roles
- Strong understanding of venture fund structures, reporting, and LP requirements
- Experience working with fund administrators, auditors, and legal advisors
- Proven ability to operate independently and take full ownership of responsibilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
