Job Description

This Plant Process Engineer position is a developmental, operations-focused engineering role supporting multiple chemical manufacturing processes. The engineer will gain deep exposure to plant operations, process troubleshooting, safety procedures, equipment setup, and continuous improvement. The position offers direct responsibility for monitoring batch operations, optimizing process conditions, training operators, and supporting both routine and non-routine plant activities. It also serves as a technical foundation for future responsibilities in process design, large capital projects, and broader engineering leadership.

Description

Responsibilities:
  • Develop strong working knowledge of all assigned chemical processes, equipment, and operating parameters
  • Maintain and update process documentation, including PFDs, operating conditions, flow rates, compositions, and QC test requirements
  • Perform daily process monitoring using batch sheets
  • Participate directly in hands-on operation of plant equipment and support safe operating conditions
  • Review completed batch sheets with operators and recommend improvements
  • Train and guide operators on troubleshooting, best practices, process safety, and optimized production methods
  • Conduct off-shift visits to meet with 2nd and 3rd shift teams as needed
  • Attend engineering and production meetings; coordinate routine and project maintenance
  • Support PHAs and propose process improvements related to quality, safety, waste reduction, and operability
  • Write and review Engineering Change Notices (ECNs); manage small-scale projects
  • Collaborate with design engineering on larger capital projects
  • Help maintain Standard Operating Instructions (startup, operating, shutdown procedures)

Profile

Ideal Candidate:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 1-5 years of experience in chemical plant operations or process engineering
  • Strong foundation in chemical engineering principles including heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid flow, distillation, reaction engineering, and extraction
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously
  • Strong verbal/written communication and ability to work effectively with operations and engineering teams
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn new chemistries and processes, and comfortable working hands-on in a plant environment
  • Proficient in computer-based business and technical applications
