Job Description
Lead Teacher – Licensed Childcare Facility
The Lead Teacher plays a central role in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. This position is responsible for planning and implementing curriculum, working with the center director to ensure compliance with state licensing regulations, and fostering strong relationships with children, families, and staff. The Lead Teacher models best practices in early childhood education and supports the growth and development of assistant teachers.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction:
- Develop and implement age‑appropriate lesson plans aligned with developmental standards and program goals.
- Create a classroom environment that supports exploration, creativity, and social‑emotional learning.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of individual children.
Classroom Leadership:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and daily direction to assistant teachers and support staff.
- Maintain consistent routines and positive behavior‑support strategies.
- Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and safe at all times.
Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance:
- Follow all state licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and program policies.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and developmental documentation.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Implement emergency procedures and support a culture of safety.
Family & Community Engagement:
- Build strong, respectful relationships with families through daily communication and scheduled conferences.
- Share developmental updates and collaborate with families to support each child’s growth.
- Represent the program positively within the community.
Professionalism & Growth:
- Participate in required trainings, continuing education, and professional development.
- Model ethical conduct, reliability, and a commitment to high‑quality early childhood education.
- Contribute to a collaborative, supportive team culture.
Qualifications:
- Meets state licensing requirements for Lead Teacher (education, training, and experience).
- Demonstrated knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and colleagues in a diverse environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Background check clearance as required by state regulations.
- Pass drug screen with clean UA.
James' Place Child Development Center is a highly professional Early Learning Center providing care to children ages 1 month - 5 years of age. With a high staff to child ratio, teachers are able to develop close personal relationships with the children and the families. Our curriculum is multifaceted and scaffolded across age & developmental levels. Our location in the downtown area affords opportunities for creating teachable moments through our walking program. Children participate weekly in story hour at the local Children's library program.
