  • Represent DFPS in court hearings, bench trials, jury trials, and required non-court meetings.
  • Review, investigate, and prosecute civil cases; present cases before judges and juries.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
  • Collaborate with DFPS caseworkers, supervisors, regional attorneys, attorneys' ad litem, and CASA supervisors and volunteers.
  • Provide 24/7 legal advice during on-call weeks (every third week).
  • Mentor and assist other employees; assign and review work as needed.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
  • Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court. Certified in the Federal District Court, Southern District of Texas and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience; preference for family law and child protective services.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public, colleagues, and elected officials.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License is required.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $4,062.40 - $5,078.40 biweekly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
