BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community are strongly encouraged to apply.Pay Range: $19.29-$21.95Unionized Position: YesJob Summary: The CCJI Advocate position provides trauma informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive services to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and sex trafficking. Advocacy responsibilities include providing civil and criminal legal advocacy services to victims/survivors in a knowledgeable, empathetic manner. This position assists with the navigation of working with local law enforcement, prosecutors, probation officers, judges, court personnel and systems professionals to meet the needs of all victims/survivors. The CCJI Advocate works with Minneapolis Police Department’s Domestic Assault Unit Investigators on felony gone on arrival domestic abuse cases to provide victims/survivors with information about the investigation process, crime victim rights, and safety planning. This position is embedded in the Minneapolis Police Department’s Special Investigations Domestic Assault Unit.Hours/Schedule: This is a full-time position, working 40 hours a week. Schedule includes working Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm. It will be hybrid - working from Cornerstone’s offices, community partner locations, courts, and some flexibility to work from home.Experience/Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in human service, social work, psychology, criminal justice or related field or comparable combination of career and life experiences. A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working within the anti-violence field and/or systems (e.g. criminal justice, social services, etc.). Completion of 40 Hour Sexual Assault Advocacy training required within first 3-6 months of employment.Primary Qualifications
- Knowledge of community resources and systems that support victims/survivors of violence.
- Ability to communicate in a calm, trauma-informed manner and effectively support individuals in crisis.
- Understanding of crime victims’ rights, civil remedies, and the criminal justice system (training provided).
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with survivors, community partners, and justice system professionals.
- Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Provide safety planning, advocacy, and one-to-one support to victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and related crimes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of services and survivor contacts.
- Document critical incidents including child protection reports, emergency responses, and participant safety concerns.
- Work collaboratively across Cornerstone programs to ensure coordinated support for survivors.
- Assist survivors in preparing Orders for Protection (OFP), Harassment Restraining Orders (HRO), and Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO), including modifications, extensions, and dismissals.
- Prepare survivors for civil court hearings and help them navigate court processes and procedures.
- Provide advocacy and support during civil court proceedings.
- Respond to advocacy hotline or voicemail inquiries and provide referrals to appropriate community resources.
- Serve as a liaison between survivors and the criminal justice system.
- Contact survivors following police reports to provide safety planning, information about the court process, and education about crime victim rights.
- Support survivors in preparing for criminal court appearances.
- Attend court hearings and collaborate with prosecutors and justice system partners to advocate for survivor safety and accountability.
