Job Description
Civil Designer III Power Generation (400 MW Simple Cycle / EPC) Long-term contract in Birmingham, AL. Very competitive pay, time and a half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem. This is a contract position. The estimated duration is 12 months, with potential extensions. Education & Experience Requirements
- Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting.*
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial experience in civil drafting and design, preferably within EPC environments in Power generation (gas turbines, renewables, BESS), substations, and transmission infrastructure.
- The Civil Designer III will be responsible for the preparation and development of civil design deliverables for power generation and distribution projects. This*
- includes working on gas turbines, renewable energy systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and transmission infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of design principles, construction practices, and interdisciplinary coordination to support the development of complete construction packages.
- Interpret and apply project scope, specifications, and design criteria.*
- Develop construction documents for civil work.*
- Ensure drawings reflect accurate material specifications for procurement, fabrication, and construction.*
- Perform field investigations to collect design data and verify clearances, and functionality.*
- Support construction activities with temporary field assignments as needed.*
- Assist engineers with cost estimation, material take-offs, and preliminary design studies.*
- Check and validate drawings produced by other drafters for accuracy and compliance.*
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure coordinated design efforts.*
- Mentor junior designers and drafters as needed.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, etc.).*
- Strong understanding of civil materials and construction methods.
- Familiarity with EPC workflows and interdisciplinary coordination.*
- Ability to interpret vendor equipment drawings and integrate into civil designs.*
- Knowledge of company and industry drafting standards.*
- Ability to estimate task durations and meet project deadlines.*
- Experience with virtual team collaboration and interoffice execution support.*
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication and presentation skills.*
- Ability to work independently and in virtual, cross-functional teams.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.*
- Occasional travel to project sites for field verification and support.
