Civil Engineer- Transportation- Charleston, WV - JOB 26-00526 Salary Range: $70,000 - $120,000 Full-Time Permanent Position with Benefits A civil engineering firm in Charleston, West Virginia to hire a talented Civil Engineer specializing in Roadway and Transportation Engineering Projects. This position offers an exceptional career trajectory for entry-level to mid-career engineers looking to work on impactful transportation infrastructure across West Virginia. You will collaborate directly with senior engineering leadership, gaining hands-on exposure to WVDOH projects while developing technical mastery in 3D roadway modeling, drainage design, and project management.Responsibilities
- Execute core transportation design tasks, including geometric alignments, 3D roadway modeling (OpenRoads Designer), pavement design, right-of-way planning, and maintenance of traffic (MOT).
- Perform hydrology calculations and design storm water drainage systems for roadway alignment projects.
- Prepare accurate construction quantity takeoff calculations, cost estimates, and technical design evaluations under senior mentorship.
- Build comprehensive knowledge of West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOH) project development procedures and deliverables.
- Participate in client and public meetings, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Requirements
BENEFITS- Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Entry-level to 5+ years of relevant experience in transportation or roadway engineering design.
- Ability to obtain Engineer in Training (EIT / EI) certification required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in West Virginia (or pathway toward licensure) strongly encouraged and supported.
- Proficiency in or willingness to learn OpenRoads Designer (experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or InRoads is a plus).
- Familiarity with WVDOH project development processes, AASHTO design guidelines, CAD standards, and right-of-way plans preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
