Job Description
Are you an engineering student seeking rewarding, practical experience with a world-class engineering firm? The ARA Transportation Division is seeking civil engineering interns available to work this summer. Interns may support a variety of engineering tasks, such as assisting in the evaluation of pavement condition data as part of pavement management implementations and pavement engineering projects.
Please note that this position is in Ventura, CA. No relocation assistance will be provided.
Under direct supervision, civil engineering interns may perform any or all of the following tasks:
- Evaluate pavement conditions by viewing digital images collected by ARA's scanning laser technology equipment
- Assist with processing data collected using our specialized equipment
- Perform basic statistical analysis of pavement data in support of pavement evaluation studies
- Enter data into PAVER (pavement management system software) related to pavement rehabilitation history and unit costs, and develop standard reports to summarize current and project pavement conditions
- Track processing progress and complete progress reports on data analysis
- Prepare data tables and charts for use in engineering and pavement management reports
- Contribute to literature reviews on transportation engineering research efforts
- Conduct pavement data collection in the field using our specialized equipment; travel may be required

Civil engineering intern requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled as an engineering student (Civil Engineering preferred) pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher at an accredited U.S. college or university. Academic coursework in transportation, materials, and/or geotechnical areas preferred.
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Electronic/mechanical abilities (such as the ability to complete minor car repairs or build a gaming computer system) are desired.
The anticipated wage range for this position is $20-24/hr, depending on experience, and premium overtime is paid for hours over 40 in a week.
