Job Description

Basic Purpose

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities auditing claims, business records, and other documents to determine or verify compliance with laws and regulations. Advises claimants concerning the interpretation and application of statutes and regulations pertaining to the claim.

Typical Functions

The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit, and organization, but may include the following:

  • Performs office audits of claims, other business records, and documents to determine or verify compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Advises claimants concerning the interpretation and application of the statutes and regulations pertaining to the claim.

  • Maintains records and submits oral and written reports concerning cases and activities.

  • Confers with attorneys, accountants, and other professionals in administering the laws and policies of the state and/or agency.

  • Performs other related work and duties as required and assigned.

Level Descriptor

Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others.

This is the basic level of the job family where employees are primarily responsible for performing routine entry-level work in a training and supervised status to build skills applicable to claims processing. Advises claimants concerning the interpretation and application of statutes and regulations pertaining to unclaimed property. This level of the job family may only initiate and recommend claims of any amount for approval.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities required at this level include knowledge of telephone and computer etiquette; working within a team environment; and computer office software, Microsoft Office Suite, desk tools.

Skill required at this level include skill in keyboarding; and 10-key (keyboard or adding machine).

Abilities required at this level include ability to provide customer service; maintain accurate records; compose professional letters and e-mails.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of an associate degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, law, or other relevant field of study and three (3) years of qualifying experience in business, accounting, finance, public administration, law, or other relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of relevant experience.
