The Office of Lab Animal Resources at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Clinical Agricultural Veterinarian.

About the Opportunity

West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, in collaboration with Potomac State College and WVU Extension, invites applications for a Clinical Agricultural Veterinarian to join our team supporting agricultural animal programs across the state of West Virginia.

The Clinical Agricultural Veterinarian will provide comprehensive veterinary care to animals maintained at WVU agricultural research stations and educational facilities. This position is responsible for overseeing a veterinary care program that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements while supporting the University's missions in research, teaching, and Extension.

This position is based in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia at Potomac State College in Keyser, WV and Davis College Research Station in Wardensville, WV.

What You'll Do

  • Provide primary veterinary care for agricultural animals, including preventative medicine, diagnosis and treatment of disease, surgical support, and post-operative care across Davis College research stations and Potomac State College.
  • Administer and oversee a veterinary care program that ensures compliance with regulatory standards and promotes the highest level of animal welfare.
  • Support and deliver training for research personnel, agricultural students, and animal care staff, and supervise veterinary technicians to ensure state-of-the-art care.
  • Provide guidance to principal investigators and research staff on IACUC protocols, participate in protocol review and institutional inspections, and support clinical and surgical aspects of research studies as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, standards of care, and policies related to veterinary care and animal welfare.
  • Serve as a veterinary resource for WVU Extension livestock programs, including co-coordination of the West Virginia Beef Quality Assurance Program and delivery of educational programming for Extension agents and agricultural producers.
  • Provide outreach through educational events, training, and communications to promote animal health across the state.
  • Participate in shared on-call duties, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • DVM or VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited program (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in food animal or large animal clinical practice.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
