Job Description

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) at Midwestern University is seeking one part time (.4 FTE) Clinical Assistant Professor. This position reports to the Chair of Department of Maternal and Child Medicine.

Responsibilities include:

Recruiting and maintaining an adequate preceptor base for the Department. This will include:

  • Visiting preceptor offices
  • Meeting with faculty at local training facilities
  • Meeting with faculty at regional and out-of-state training facilities
  • Facilitating faculty appointments through the Dean's office
  • Facilitating letters of agreement or affiliation agreements through Clinical Education
  • Arranging for proper payment and CME credit for preceptors recruited in the department
  • Addressing issues that may arise regarding preceptors
  • Serving on committees, as needed

Report to the Chair of the Department weekly regarding:

  • Status of clerkship sites
  • Review of student evaluations and plan to address areas of concern
  • Development or delivery of faculty development and preceptor training
  • Development or delivery of curriculum for regional and out-of-state students
  • Meetings with students for academic or career counseling

Student interactions may include:

  • Advising on careers in OB/Gyn (and residency match)
  • Serving as faculty advisor for OB/Gyn Interest Group
  • Providing lectures in courses, assigned
  • Assisting with development and facilitation of the annual student rotation preparation workshops (OB/Gyn PRSPs), including simulation center demonstrations
  • Assisting with Standardized Patient Encounters/Examinations/OSCEs, which may include grading SOAP notes, in person or asynchronous review and grading of standardized patient encounters with remediation of students who fail
  • Assisting with clinical skills teaching and assessment for clinical courses which may be general clinical skills and not related to specialty

Required meetings may include:

  • Department of Clinical Education or Department of Maternal and Child Health for strategic planning, curricular planning and review, and faculty retreats
  • Represent the AZCOM clinical faculty at educational meetings on or off campus

Position Requirements:

This position, at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, requires a D.O. or M.D. degree and board eligibility/certification in OB/Gyn Medicine
