Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of Program Director, the clinical educational assistant is responsible for the supervision, instruction, and evaluation of nursing students in the clinical agency and clinical laboratory setting by effective performance in these essential duties:Key responsibilities include:

  • Clinical practicum administration.
    • Establishing and maintaining appropriate records for each student.
    • Conducting or overseeing clinical competency examinations, monitoring student progress and maintaining comprehensive records on student performance.
    • Conferring with and advising students on their clinical performance and progress.
  • Clinical instruction.
    • Adhere to clinical instruction guidelines consistent with the assigned program’s didactic and clinical instructional content.
    • Conduct and oversee clinical demonstrations and lab sessions.
    • Maintain the quality of clinical instruction and its conformance to accreditation standards.
    • Teach in accordance with approved course description, learning outcomes, and schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Nursing: Master’s degree in Nursing with two (2) or more years of clinical experience; or a combination of education, training and experience that is equivalent and in compliance with the State Board of Nursing regulations and program accreditation standards. Practical Nursing: Bachelor's degree in Nursing with three (3) years or more of clinical teaching experience. Must be working towards achieving a master's degree within four (4) years.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Must have an unencumbered nursing license to practice in the state of Connecticut.
  • Proficiency in the skills and knowledge related to the assigned area of nursing practice.
  • Clinical instruction, supervision, and evaluation
  • Use of various assessment methods to evaluate student performance in clinical settings.
  • Comprehensive familiarity with accreditation standards in assigned discipline.
  • Evidence of compliance with all clinical placement requirements, which may include background and toxicology screenings.
  • Compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Additional qualifications may be requested, as relevant to the academic department.

Work Environment

The physical demands of this position are consistent with the demands of someone working as a nurse in the field. These include, but are not limited to, standing for extended periods of time, lifting, moving, and manipulating patients and equipment, and quickly responding to emergency situations. Incumbents travel to multiple clinical instruction sites and need to be able to drive a private passenger automobile or to arrange for alternative transportation.

Salary

  • $105.86 hourly
