Job Description

The Clinical Risk & Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation, administration and on-going management of clinical risk and patient safety programs designed to support a culture of safety and organizational risk reduction.

This role partners closely with clinical, operational, quality, legal, compliance, Human Resources, and medical leadership teams to identify, investigate, trend, and mitigate patient safety events, clinical risks, complaints, and adverse incidents. Responsibilities include event reporting, incident investigation, root cause analysis (RCA), safety rounding, regulatory readiness, complaint management, education, and continuous improvement initiatives to support safe, high-quality patient care.The Clinical Risk & Safety Manager gathers, analyzes, and reports patient safety and risk data to identify trends, support corrective actions, reduce harm, and strengthen organizational safety performance.

This position is open to remote candidates with a high preference of being local to the corporate office in Carrollwood, Tampa. 

Clinical Risk and Safety Program Management

  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the organization including Physician Leadership, Clinical Leadership, Human Resources, Field Operations and the Quality Manager to promote a culture of safety.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and key point of contact for UVVC offices and other external parties on all matters related to clinical risk identification, prevention and control.
  • Support the annual Risk Reduction Plan and evaluation of the effectiveness of the Risk Management and Safety Program and develop/modify goals, as indicated. Known and emerging risks will be identified through a review of incident reports and any organizational/department/program risk assessment.
  • Administer and maintain a robust event reporting system to capture, track, and analyze adverse incidents, patient complaints and patient and employee safety events.
  • Conduct timely analysis of incidents and/or adverse events
  • Engage team members at the facility, regional and corporate level(s) to evaluate incidents and assist in investigation to mitigate harm and exposure to the organization.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations, which includes assessing the need for focused review by other departments and/or clinical leaders for peer reviews.
  • Provide support in the management of patient complaints and grievances across the organization.
  • Develop, review and implement clinical risk and safety policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Administer and support implementation of clinical emergency preparedness plans to mitigate adverse events and ensure readiness for potential safety incidents.
  • Conduct regular drills and training exercises to test and refine clinical emergency response procedures.
  • Administer and oversee regular safety audits and inspections of clinical sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Escalate significant patient safety, clinical risk, regulatory, or potentially compensable events to the appropriate organizational leadership.
  • Stay current with changes in regulatory requirements and update safety protocols accordingly.
  • Lead and participate on committees directed toward promoting safety and quality of care.
  • Claims Management:

  • Identify occurrences that are potentially compensable events and work with clinical staff to obtain appropriate documentation.
  • Act as a point of contact in the management and support of professional liability litigation, including coordination of clinical documentation, discovery support, and provide documentation for defense counsel along with associated discovery, deposition and witness scheduling, etc.
  • Clinical Risk and Safety Program Education

  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain organization wide education to raise awareness of clinical risk exposure, patient safety principles, and risk reduction strategies.
  • Develop and implement clinical safety educational tools for onboarding and ongoing training of medical staff and clinic team members.
  • Clinical Risk & Safety Analytics & Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, trend, and report patient safety, adverse events, complaint, grievance, and clinical risk data to identify patterns, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare recurring reports, dashboards, and analytical summaries for Legal, Compliance, Clinical Quality, Medical Leadership, and organizational committees.
  • Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions and risk mitigation strategies through ongoing data analysis and performance monitoring.

  • Qualifications 

    Registered Nurse (RN) with current state licensure.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • 5+ years of clinical RN experience.
  • 3+ years in healthcare quality, safety and/or risk management.
  • 1+ years’ experience managing a clinical risk and safety program preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider required.
  • Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating patient safety events, conducting root cause analysis (RCA), and supporting corrective action planning.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and reporting patient safety, risk, and quality-related data.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with reporting tools, dashboards, EMR reporting, or analytics platforms preferred.
  • Ability to interpret trends and communicate findings to clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
  • Dependable; able to meet reliable attendance and punctuality standards for the role.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% nationally
