Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Cloud DevOps Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a passion for automating and optimising technology processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Design and Management: Design, provision, operate and manage highly available, performant and scalable distributed application systems on AWS. Drive through the implementation process by example, guidance and technical acumen.
  • Automation, GitOps & CI/CD: Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment and testing processes of infrastructure and solution components.
  • Monitoring & Performance: Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure the availability and performance of the cloud environment. Provide system administration support. Identify performance bottlenecks in workloads and optimisation opportunities within the existing systems, for implementing solutions to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and ensure cloud infrastructure security and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams, product managers, security, network and other operations teams, providing guidance to ensure a smooth and reliable application delivery process.
  • Cost Optimisation: Monitor and optimise cloud infrastructure costs, making recommendations for cost-saving measures.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive architectural documentation, including design documents, reference diagrams and guidelines to facilitate unambiguous implementation, knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) are a plus.
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, system engineer or in a similar role, with a strong focus on AWS cloud services.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation), Automation tools (Jenkins, GitLab or AWS CodePipeline), Linux System Administration and Observability/Monitoring tools (ELK, AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Icinga, Datadog, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, networking, compute, storage services, as well as serverless computing and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with application configuration, secrets management and AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and document processes.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with other cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, Google Cloud) and multi-cloud strategies.
