Job Summary:
The Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating Lathe and Milling machines to produce parts that meet company specifications and quality standards. This role follows blueprints, shop orders, and work instructions to ensure accurate and efficient production.
Hourly range: $24.43 - $26.96 (Based on experience).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC machines to produce parts to specification
- Select appropriate machines, tools, and materials based on job requirements
- Interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings to determine specifications
- Load, position, and secure workpieces using proper fixtures and clamping methods
- Perform basic CNC machine operation and make minor program adjustments as needed
- Start, monitor, and stop machines to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Inspect parts using measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify dimensions and quality
- Perform in-process checks to ensure compliance with specifications and reduce defects
- Deburr and finish parts using hand tools such as die grinders
- Accurately record production data and job status using data collection systems
- Move materials and finished goods using appropriate equipment (e.g., carts, forklifts as trained)
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with safety standards
- Follow all safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1 year of machining or manufacturing experience preferred
- Basic understanding of machining concepts and shop practices preferred
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and work instructions
- Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals
- Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures; proficient with calipers and micrometers
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow directions
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
- Position will require standing at all times
- Position will require the ability to lift up to 50 lbs most of the time and over 50 lbs occasionally.
- Position will require pushing and pulling most of the time.
- Position will have exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oil, and grease at all times.
- Position will have exposure to smoke at times.
