Job Summary and Mission

Responsible for setting up and operating a variety of CNC-controlled carbide press machines, including but not limited to Dorst, Osterwalder, and Teledyne models. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to perform both mechanical and computer-based adjustments to ensure high[1]quality production of carbide inserts.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate multiple CNC carbide presses in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform computer-controlled setups and make necessary adjustments to CNC programs during setup to ensure optimal machine performance.
  • Load and unload carbide inserts from multiple presses efficiently and safely. - Measure and inspect inserts using gauges to ensure compliance with dimensional specifications.
  • Visually inspect inserts under a scope to verify surface quality and other visual characteristics.
  • Pull product samples and accurately record inspection results on route cards.
  • Select, weigh, and prepare tungsten powder for pressing into green inserts.
  • Identify and separate scrap from acceptable product, and document findings accurately.
  • Accurately scan and record all relevant production information into the tracking system.
  • Maintain and resurface tooling used in production as needed to ensure consistent output.
  • Operate additional equipment as required to support production needs.
  • Train new operators as assigned, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot moderate to complex mechanical and operational issues with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to working safely and in full compliance with all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Handle deviations from routine processes according to established operating procedures and/or work instructions.
  • Ensure adherence to Press Data Sheets, routing requirements, and product specifications; verify that product quantity and style are accurate.
  • Strive to meet or exceed daily departmental production targets.
  • Exhibit reliability and dependability in attendance and performance.
  • Communicate any safety concerns, quality issues, or product discrepancies to the supervisor, team members, and across shifts to ensure consistent operations and continuous improvement.K30

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • A two year technical degree is preferred

Work Environment

Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment equipped with dust collection systems.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements include safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes.

Additional PPE such as gloves or cut-resistant gloves may be required depending on the task.

Physical Demands

The role requires standing for approximately eight hours per shift, with two scheduled breaks + one lunch per 8 hour period.

Occasional walking, reaching, sitting, and bending are required.

Must be able to lift insert trays weighing up to thirty-three (33) pounds.

Problem Solving

Operate in alignment with scheduled order due dates and adhere strictly to the Press Data Sheet and Inspection Standards.

Tasks and instructions are typically communicated orally and executed according to established guidelines.

Must inspect and perform necessary modifications to tooling

Responsible for solving moderate to complex production issues using a comprehensive understanding of insert styles, process requirements, and, when necessary, in coordination with technical experts both within and outside the facility.

Recurring issues or significant decisions are escalated to the supervisor for resolution
