Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, or multi-axis machines
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Load and edit CNC programs using G-code and CAM software
  • Select tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds for optimal machining performance
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks
  • Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and production issues to minimize downtime
  • Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes
  • Monitor production runs and adjust machine offsets as needed
  • Train and mentor junior machinists and machine operators
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on process improvements
  • Perform preventive maintenance and maintain clean, safe work areas
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Document setups, inspections, and production data accurately

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; technical/trade school required.
  • 7+ years of CNC machining experience
  • Advanced experience with CNC mills.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and machining principles
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Experience with multi-axis machining
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, coolants, and lubricants
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and gloves
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift
  • Work may involve tight production deadlines and fast-paced operations
  • Overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on production schedules
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies is required
  • Collaboration with machinists, programmers, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality inspectors is expected

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery
