• Title: CNC Manufacturing Engineer• Location: Cedar Rapids, IA• Shift: 1st Shift• Hire Type: Direct Hire• Pay Rate: $80,000-95,000 per year
Sterling Engineering is hiring a CNC Manufacturing Engineer for a well-established precision machining company with more than 70 years of manufacturing excellence. This is a great opportunity to join a growing engineering team that has recently invested in advanced CNC equipment, Swiss machining technology, robotics, automation, CAD/CAM programming, and CMM inspection systems. You'll play a critical role in shaping the future of the company's manufacturing engineering function while working on complex, high-precision components for demanding industries. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for high-volume production machining
- Support CAD/CAM programming and manufacturing process development
- Program and support INDEX Swiss, CNC lathes, multi-spindle CNC machines, and similar turning equipment
- Develop machining strategies that improve productivity, quality, and cycle times
- Review customer drawings, GD&T requirements, and engineering specifications
- Select tooling, establish cutting parameters, and develop tooling packages
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, setup sheets, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation
- Troubleshoot CNC programming, tooling, setup, production, and quality issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and manufacturing performance
Qualifications:
- Strong CNC programming experience in a production machining environment
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (Esprit or similar preferred)
- Ability to read, edit, troubleshoot, and optimize G-code and M-code programs
- Experience programming INDEX Swiss, Swiss CNC, multi-spindle CNC, CNC lathes, or similar equipment
- Strong understanding of tooling selection, feeds and speeds, offsets, setup strategy, and cycle time optimization
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles
