CNC Set-up Machinist

Location: 6525 Homestead Road, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77028

Work Hours: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday

The Dixon Group is seeking a skilled CNC Set‑Up Machinist to join our Houston manufacturing team! This role is ideal for an experienced machinist who takes pride in precision, enjoys problem‑solving, and thrives in a collaborative shop environment. You will play a key role in producing high‑quality metal components that meet demanding specifications while working with modern CNC technology.

What You'll Do:

As a CNC Set‑Up Machinist, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient setup and operation of CNC lathes to produce precision components. Key responsibilities include:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC lathes according to job requirements and engineering drawings
  • Load and verify CNC programs; troubleshoot and make minor program edits as needed
  • Monitor machining processes and make tool and offset adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Perform in‑process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Identify machining issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and work safely around equipment and coworkers
  • Rotate between machines or assignments as production needs require
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience setting up and operating CNC machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
  • Working knowledge of G‑code
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail with solid math and reading skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Mazatrol programming and controls
  • Prior experience in a high‑volume or precision manufacturing environment

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with typical machine‑shop conditions
