Summary:

Responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing coding education programs for medical coders and other relevant staff. This role ensures that coding professionals have the knowledge and skills required to accurately assign medical codes, maintain compliance with coding guidelines, and contribute to the revenue cycle management process

Essential Functions:

Design, develop, and update coding education curriculum based on current coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Conduct training sessions, workshops, and webinars for coders and coding-related staff, covering topics such as CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, compliance, and documentation improvement.
  • Create engaging e-learning modules and online courses for remote learning, using multimedia tools and e-learning platforms.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to coders, reviewing coding accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with clinical documentation improvement specialists to educate coders on the importance of accurate and detailed medical documentation for coding.
  • Conduct coding audits and provide detailed feedback to coders on areas for improvement, helping them enhance coding accuracy and proficiency.
  • Offer ongoing education and learning opportunities to coding staff, keeping them informed about coding advancements and emerging healthcare trends.
  • Educate coders on coding compliance regulations, ethics, and fraud and abuse prevention to maintain organizational integrity.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management required or bachelor's degree Related Field of Study Preferred

CCS, CPMA, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CHC, CPB

Experience

Coding Experience 2-3 years required and Teaching Experience 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong instructional skills, including the ability to engage learners, present complex concepts clearly, and adapt teaching methods to various learning styles.
  • In-depth understanding of coding guidelines, compliance regulations, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to deliver training content effectively and interact with diverse learners.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate coding accuracy, identify training needs, and measure training effectiveness.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with coding staff, trainers, managers, and other stakeholders.
