What You'll Be Doing:

  • Working mainly in the field, serves as primary investigator on fatality and other complex enforcement inspections.
  • Independently performing complex and comprehensive industrial hygiene and occupational safety inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with adopted OSHA standards.
  • Providing Ohio public employers and employees with occupational health and safety compliance assistance.
  • Identifying existing or potential safety and health hazards and/or facilitates compliance with adopted Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards in Ohio Revised Code & Ohio Administrative Code chapter 4167.

Position Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12 months experience citing, interpreting, & applying Federal OSHA regulations & standards
  • 12 months experience conducting air, noise, & chemical monitoring & sampling using related industrial hygiene equipment (e.g., dosimeters, sound-level meter, air sampling pumps, velometer, electrical circuit test equipment, direct reading air monitoring devices, & other equipment)

Skill in: (1)use of PC and peripheral equipment (e.g., fax, scanner, laptop), (2)use of MS Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), (3)use of equipment operations [e.g., calculator, direct reading instruments (i.e., sound-level meter, octave band analyzer, single & multi-gas meters, velometer), & other equipment needed] to perform most complex sampling & testing, (4)citing, interpreting & applying Federal OSHA regulations & standards, (5)citing, interpreting & applying Consensus Standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, NEC), (6)technical writing, (7)conducting research on industrial or environmental health & safety hazards, (8)interpersonal communication (listening, writing, reading, body language), (9)addressing various audiences & adaptation to those audiences, (10)handling multiple projects & prioritizing based on many variables, (11)use of PERRP Application (e.g., form completion/report writing), (12)use of OSHA web application.

Ability to: (1)recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate action, (2)define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions, (3)prepare & maintain accurate & concise records/reports, (4)use proper research methods in gathering data, (5)gather, collate & classify data about people, places & things, (6)handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with employers, government officials, accountants, attorneys & general public, (7)prepare & deliver speeches, seminars & training sessions for employers, employees & specialized audiences, (8)use statistical analysis, (9)communicate technical data both verbally & in writing to internal & external customers, (10)work in a non-office setting (e.g., field, office, employer location), (11)coordinate use of time & resources (e.g., meet schedules, appointments & deadlines), (12)address multiple issues at employer sites, (13)comprehend a variety of complex technical written material & incorporate into recommendations & findings that are either verbal or in writing, (14)resolve complaints from angry citizens & government officials, (15)market products or services to various levels within an employer organization, (16)travel throughout State of Ohio, (17)identify accident causations, (18)work independently (e.g., interacting with various positions from peers to governmental agency heads) or in a team setting.
