Commercial Construction Senior Project Manager - Healthcare

Job Description:

The Senior Project Manager's role is to effectively manage both small and large-scale healthcare construction projects from discovery and design through development and implementation. Within HITT's Healthcare group, the Senior Project Manager oversees projects such as hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, medical office buildings, imaging and laboratory spaces, and renovations within occupied healthcare environments, where patient safety, infection prevention, life safety, and continuity of operations are critical to client success. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for all of the duties performed by the Project Manager, with particular attention to the complexity, risk, and coordination demands of occupied healthcare settings, as well as the following:

Responsibilities

  • Maintain adherence to HITT's standards of safety, including administering the HITT safety program across all subcontractors with particular attention to occupied healthcare spaces, infection-control barriers, interim life-safety measures, egress, and utility shutdowns
  • Ensure all job processes are followed in accordance with HITT policies, including compliance with infection-control requirements, healthcare codes, medical gas standards, and owner-specific facility protocols
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts with clients, including scope related to phased work, infection-control measures, shutdown windows, and healthcare-specific commissioning and turnover requirements
  • Monitor the progress of each project through updated schedules, including the master schedule and rolling three-week look-ahead, coordinating inspections, commissioning, and turnover while ensuring proper installation methods and sequencing
  • Ensure that the project Quality Control Plan is followed, including verification of work against approved drawings, specifications, submittals, mockups, testing requirements, and manufacturer instructions
  • Assist project staff in resolving scope problems with subcontractors, including specialty trades for medical gas, controls, nurse call, low-voltage, and healthcare equipment systems
  • Ensure proper assignment and evaluation of field personnel both within the project team and throughout the company
  • Identify and negotiate time extensions where justified and allowed
  • Acquire new work as well as maintain existing clients within the healthcare sector
  • Maintain positive relationships with the subcontractor community, including specialty healthcare trades
  • Ensure timely completion of the closeout process, including coordination through owner/architect and facilities-team acceptance
  • Lead the preconstruction and RFP package effort with the help of the Preconstruction Department and/or other company resources, accounting for healthcare-specific requirements such as infection control, interim life-safety measures, and utility shutdown planning
  • Oversee development and execution of detailed method-of-procedure plans for utility shutdowns, tie-ins, energization, and other high-risk activities, including advance approvals, notifications, contingency planning, and post-work verification
  • Collaborate with the project team, facility representatives, and clinical stakeholders throughout the project to anticipate issues before they affect patient care, schedule, or cost
  • Coordinate with the design team, facility representatives, authorities having jurisdiction, and third-party inspectors to resolve field conditions, RFIs, inspections, and code-compliance issues promptly
  • Delegate responsibility when necessary to ensure that the project/tasks run smoothly

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with a commercial general contractor; healthcare project experience strongly preferred
  • A four-year degree from an accredited university with a concentration in construction, engineering, or business is strongly preferred
  • In lieu of a degree, additional work experience is acceptable
  • Has successfully acquired and/or contacted at least one new client
  • Ability to execute multiple project management efforts simultaneously, including those with the added complexity of occupied healthcare environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite
