Job Description
- Coordinate and communicate with various parties including agents, producers, and underwriting staff to support our underwriting efforts and take appropriate action within designated timeframes.
- Ensure quality and timeliness of policies and correspondence and respond to customers' inquiries.
- Ensure electronic files are accurately maintained per company and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform exposure comparisons, research risks via company and public data resources, and review applications to ensure the accuracy of application, quote, and policy details.
- Quote/issue commercial property, general liability, and inland marine lines of coverage and process endorsements.
- Review property and casualty inspection reports and manage necessary inspection recommendations.
- Review policy performance for renewal business requesting additional information as needed.
- Review applications and ensure quality of policies and correspondence and respond to agent, wholesaler, and customer inquiries.
- Develop personal industry skills and knowledge to meet the company’s culture and expectations of continuous learning and career enrichment.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of current P&C insurance market trends, conditions, competitive intelligence, and product and service innovations.
- Ability to interact collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, agents, and customers in a professional manner.
- Two years of commercial insurance underwriting assistant experience working with small and mid-size accounts.
- Minimum high school diploma / GED required.
- Previous commercial insurance rating experience is preferred but not required.
- Moderate knowledge of commercial coverage endorsements rules and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal decision-making and analytical skills are required.
- Exceptional organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Continuous underwriting skills development. Professional designations are available via company-paid self-training through The Institutes and The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.
