Position Title:Communications and Fundraising CoordinatorOur Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults and basic education classes to adult English language learners in the Phillips Community of South Minneapolis. OSCS takes its name from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, which founded our programs in the early 1980s. In 2004, we became a legally and financially independent nonprofit. This Role: The Communications and Fundraising Coordinator produces and implements general and specialized communications that highlight the mission and programs of Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) and drive individual giving. This role also involves maintaining the organization’s social media accounts, website, and supporter database, as well as the information those systems contain. This position works collaboratively with other members of the Development and Communications Team, as well as other staff members. Their work raises the visibility of OSCS and its programs and supports the organization in reaching its annual fundraising goals.This position is full-time, hourly, non-exempt, and reports to the Development and Communications Manager as part of the Development and Communications team. This position will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid workplace, with on-site hours required on Thursdays, the last business day of each month, and at other times as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. This role is typically working Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. Occasional evening or weekend hours are required for special events or engagements with staff, volunteers, or participants in evening programs. Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesGeneral Communications duties and tasks include:
- Coordinating the production and implementation of print and digital communications projects, including producing accurate mailing lists and mailing materials.
- Providing timely content updates for and overseeing the maintenance of the OSCS website.
- Creating engaging content for OSCS social media accounts and overseeing the maintenance of those accounts.
- Responding in an accurate and timely manner to external inquiries, including via social media, the OSCS website, and the general OSCS communications email inbox.
- Producing content for the OSCS blog, newsletters, donor communications, digital campaigns, and external publications.
- Communicating with external vendors regarding supplies, print projects, and other needs.
- Managing and maintaining a supporter and donation database system, ensuring accurate and comprehensive information is entered and updated in a timely manner.
- Promptly acknowledging individual donors for their gifts.
- Training and assisting other staff members with the supporter database system.
- Updating general fundraising materials on a scheduled basis with fresh language or information.
- Participating in activities that expand the organization’s profile, including presentations and tabling efforts.
- Alongside the Development and Communications Manager, help plan, coordinate, and implement special events.
- Creating and updating various print and digital materials (flyers, presentation templates, etc.) for the organization, in alignment with brand standards.
- Maintaining a consistent voice and visual brand for all OSCS materials.
- Organizing, managing, and updating OSCS photo and video assets.
- Working with the Development and Communications team to support the maintenance and implementation of an annual communications calendar.
- Evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness and reach of communications and fundraising efforts, including creating and updating reports.
- Engaging in learning opportunities to stay up-to-date on the latest best practices in communications and donor database management; using that knowledge and creative problem-solving to provide ongoing improvements to systems and tackle challenges.
- Submit electronic check deposits on a regular schedule.
- Participating in regularly scheduled meetings, events, and projects of the Development and Communications Team.
- Actively participating in building a culture of belonging within OSCS.
- Other duties to be discussed as time permits and the needs of OSCS require.
- 1+ year(s) of work experience, preferably related to communications or fundraising.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate collaborative projects.
- Ability to respond resiliently and appropriately in conversations with clients that bring up themes of clients’ traumas.
- Ability to read, understand, and write in English.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, monitors, keyboards, and software programs.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to community-centric fundraising practices and asset-based communications.
- Familiarity with donor database systems, such as Bloomerang.
- Familiarity with one or more email marketing platforms.
- Familiarity with Canva, Animoto, and/or other tools for producing content.
- Prior work and/or volunteer experience related to the mission of OSCS.
- Fluency in Somali, Spanish, Oromo, Pashto, Dari, or another language.
- Experience communicating with English language learners.
- Familiarity with Google ad grants or other digital marketing platforms.
- Experience with photography.
- Experience managing a social media page for an organization.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and familiarity with a website management system like WordPress.
