Our client is seeking an experienced Communications Manager III supporting two apps that sit at the center of culture. This individual will drive strategic media relations initiatives that amplify consumer product launches, proactive storytelling, and culturally relevant communications programs.
The ideal candidate has a proven background in public relations and earned media, with strong relationships across consumer, technology, lifestyle, and creator-focused media. This person will develop compelling narratives, secure high-impact press coverage, and collaborate cross-functionally to bring Instagram product innovations and stories to life.
Success in this role requires exceptional storytelling skills, a passion for media pitching, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead media relations efforts supporting two apps announcements, feature launches, and communications initiatives.
- Develop compelling messaging, press materials, and strategic story angles that generate earned media coverage.
- Pitch and secure media placements across consumer, technology, lifestyle, creator, and emerging media outlets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, creators, influencers, and social publishers.
- Identify proactive storytelling opportunities focused on Gen Z culture, creator success stories, music, and emerging social trends.
- Partner closely with Product, Marketing, Partnerships, and Communications teams to develop integrated go-to-market communications strategies.
- Monitor media coverage, measure campaign performance, and optimize outreach strategies based on results.
- Manage multiple communications initiatives while responding quickly to evolving priorities and news cycles.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 4+ years of experience in Public Relations, Media Relations, Corporate Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- Established relationships with journalists covering consumer technology, lifestyle, social media, youth culture, or creator ecosystems.
- Demonstrated success securing earned media coverage for consumer-facing products, brands, or campaigns.
- Experience leading media outreach for product launches, feature announcements, or integrated communications initiatives.
- Strong media pitching skills with a track record of successful press placements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing press releases, messaging documents, blogs, and executive communications.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong storytelling abilities with experience transforming product updates into compelling narratives.
- Highly organized with excellent project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a public relations agency, particularly supporting consumer, lifestyle, entertainment, or technology brands.
- Experience developing communications strategies for social media platforms or creator-focused products.
- Strong understanding of Gen Z culture, digital trends, creator communities, and social media storytelling.
- Existing relationships with consumer, lifestyle, entertainment, technology, and creator-focused media outlets.
- Experience working with influencers, creators, and social publishers as part of communications campaigns.
- Familiarity with the New York City or Los Angeles media landscape and established local press relationships.
- Experience supporting high-profile consumer product launches within the technology industry.
- Background in journalism or editorial with an established media network
