Job Description

Communications Specialist

The City of Lebanon is seeking a creative, detail-driven Communications Specialist to support public information, digital communications, and civic engagement efforts. This role is essential in helping residents, employees, media partners, and stakeholders understand City programs, services, events, and emergency information.

What You'll Do

  • Writing, editing, and publishing content for the website, social media, newsletters, digital signage, and press materials
  • Creating graphics, photography, and short-form video
  • Supporting public information campaigns and community outreach
  • Assisting with media relations, interviews, and press events
  • Live-streaming, recording, captioning, and publishing public meetings
  • Maintaining content calendars and ensuring consistent messaging
  • Assist in drafting employee communications
  • Assisting with emergency and time-sensitive public updates
  • Tracking engagement metrics and preparing summary reports
  • Collaborating with departments to translate technical topics into public-friendly language

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, content management systems, and social media platforms
  • Comfortable managing multiple deadlines
  • Someone who is creative, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Flexible with hours, including evenings or weekends for meetings or events
  • Skilled at adapting messages for different audiences
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, digital media, or a related field plus two years of professional experience. OR High school diploma (or equivalent) plus five years of professional experience in public communications, content creation, social media management, or media relations.
