The investigator will support suspicious activity reporting, monitor real-time risk queues to meet service level expectations, and partner with internal stakeholders on client outreach, education, and risk mitigation strategies while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Essential duties include the following:

  • Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts involving potentially suspicious, unusual, or high-risk payment activity.
  • Analyze ACH, card, merchant, client, and portfolio-level activity to identify fraud, money laundering, sanctions, operational, or compliance risk indicators.
  • Conduct due diligence and investigative research using internal systems, case management tools, public records, adverse media, internet research, and other relevant sources.
  • Document investigative steps, findings, rationale, and recommendations in a clear, complete, and audit-ready manner.
  • Escalate matters requiring additional review, remediation, client outreach, account restrictions, reporting, or other risk mitigation action.
  • Monitor client-level and portfolio-level trends and communicate emerging issues, patterns, and recommendations to compliance leadership.
  • Partner with Account Management, Operations, Product, and other internal teams to support client communications, remediation strategies, and control recommendations.
  • Support departmental service levels through proactive queue management, timely case dispositioning, and accurate prioritization of time-sensitive reviews.

Serious candidates will possess the minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in AML investigations, transaction monitoring, payments risk, financial crimes compliance, credit risk review, or a related financial services risk function.
  • Working knowledge of the laws applicable to money laundering, including the Bank Secrecy Act, the USA PATRIOT Act, US Treasury AML guidelines, OFAC requirements, and Suspicious Activity Reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to evaluate complex activity, identify patterns, and support conclusions with evidence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain risk concerns, investigation outcomes, and recommended actions clearly.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a queue-based environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience in payment processing, fintech, merchant acquiring, ACH, card processing, NACHA requirements, card scheme rules, or money services business environments.
  • Experience using transaction monitoring systems, fraud tools, sanctions screening tools, case management platforms, or data analytics tools.
  • Experience drafting or contributing to SAR narratives, quality control reviews, or regulatory/audit-ready case documentation.
  • Familiarity with emerging fraud trends, payment typologies, merchant risk indicators, account-to-account payments, or other evolving financial crime risks.
  • Ability to translate investigative findings into practical control recommendations, client guidance, or operational remediation steps.
  • CAMS, CFE, CFCS, or similar financial crimes, fraud, compliance, or risk certification preferred.
  • Sit for long periods of time performing sedentary activities.
