Job Description“The Largest Independent Established Multi-Specialty Group in Central North Carolina is Seeking a Compliance Officer to join our Team!”VOTED “BUSINESS OF THE YEAR” 2018VOTED ONE OF THE “FASTEST GROWING COMPANIES IN THE TRIAD” 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.Our mission at BMC is to provide excellent care through a multi-specialty approach from prevention to intervention of potentially life-threatening health problems.Bethany Medical is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Compliance Officer to lead our comprehensive compliance program across our multi-specialty outpatient clinic system. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, this individual will serve as the primary authority on all regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and internal policies. The successful candidate will ensure unwavering adherence to federal and state healthcare regulations while fostering a culture of integrity throughout the organization.Essential Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and maintain an effective, multi-specialty compliance program that meets all federal and state benchmarks.
- HIPAA & Privacy Oversight: Serve as the designated lead for HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification. This includes conducting mandatory risk assessments, drafting robust policies, and managing system-wide incident responses.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Function as the subject matter expert on healthcare law, including the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and the False Claims Act, ensuring all internal protocols remain current.
- Auditing & Investigations: Coordinate and oversee internal auditing and monitoring activities to identify vulnerabilities. Develop and execute corrective action plans and provide oversight for all compliance-related investigations.
- Staff Education: Design and deploy specialized training programs to educate clinical and administrative staff on evolving compliance standards and the North Carolina Medical Board guidelines.
- Certification: A current Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) credential through the HCCA is required. Candidates must have held this certification in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in healthcare compliance, specifically within a physician practice or multi-specialty group setting. Prior experience serving as a formal Compliance Officer is strongly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Juris Doctor (JD), or a related graduate field is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in medical record auditing, accurate coding documentation, and risk mitigation strategies within the North Carolina regulatory landscape.
