Our Corporate Office is seeking a Compliance Operations Intern to join our team. This internship provides an exceptional opportunity for students to gain hands‑on experience in policy development, compliance operations, and risk management within a highly regulated trust company environment. The intern will work closely with compliance and operational leaders to support policy and procedure updates, assist with risk assessments and audits, and contribute to projects related to system migrations and regulatory documentation. Key takeaways from this role include strengthening analytical and writing skills, learning how compliance programs operate in practice, and gaining exposure to real‑world governance and risk management workflows. We're specifically seeking candidates who reside in the Sioux Falls, SD area.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the hourly rate for this position is $21 per hour.

Primary Job Functions

Job Functions

Support Policy and Procedure Development

  • Assist with updating written policies and procedures, including documenting operational practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Scribe and organize procedure drafts to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with compliance standards.
  • Contribute to maintaining the organization's policy manual and support enhancements tied to regulatory or operational changes.

Assist with Risk Management and Compliance Activities

  • Support risk assessments by gathering data, reviewing controls, and helping summarize findings for leadership.
  • Help prepare for audits by validating controls, reviewing documentation, and ensuring required materials are up to date.
  • Conduct regulatory research and distill key points into concise, actionable summaries for the compliance team.

Contribute to Operational Process Improvements

  • Create process maps to visualize workflows and identify potential efficiency or compliance gaps.
  • Support documentation efforts related to the organization's system migration, including updates to client file processes following acquisition.
  • Assist with identifying workflow improvements that enhance consistency, accuracy, and regulatory adherence across compliance operations.

Participate in Team Collaboration and Learning Opportunities

  • Engage with compliance leaders and trust company managers to support ongoing projects through daily or regular interactions.
  • Collaborate with team members to share ideas, ask questions, and contribute to a supportive and knowledge‑sharing team culture.
  • Take part in hands‑on learning that strengthens understanding of compliance, operations, and risk management within a highly regulated environment.

Education/Qualifications

  • Must be actively enrolled in a college or university degree program to be eligible for an internship. Candidates who have already graduated or will graduate before the start of the summer intern program are not eligible.
  • Preferably Pursuing bachelor's in pre-law or related degree.
  • Preferably students between their junior and senior years
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to successfully interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • Detail oriented, highly organized and adaptable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as: the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. To comply with state pay transparency laws, we must disclose the entire salary grade. The entire salary grade for those who are classified as the Intern level is $38,700.00 to$ 54,200.00. However, the base salary range bolded above is what we expect to pay as a starting range for this position.
