Estimating Specialist

Alyeska Builders is looking to add an Estimating Specialist to its growing team.

We are a construction company located in North Pole, Alaska - specializing in residential new construction and remodel, as well as light commercial. We are extremely team focused, and strive to build lasting relationships with our clients and trade partners.

Position Summary

The Estimating Specialist is responsible for creating accurate, detailed estimates.

This role works closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure project scopes are properly defined, approved, documented, and executed efficiently.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are accurately estimated, properly documented, and efficiently coordinated between clients, trade partners, and field teams. The estimating team is the foundation for all work that comes into the company!

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, growth-minded, and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Typical Daily Tasks Include (but are not limited to)

  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and trade partner quotes.
  • Develop and submit competitive proposals.
  • Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Assist with change orders throughout projects.
  • Maintain estimating records and pricing databases.
  • Ensure estimates align with project scope, schedules, and company objectives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and task management abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Customer-focused mindset with commitment to professionalism and quality workmanship.

  • Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial construction methods.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and scopes of work.

  • Minimum 2 years of customer service experience required.

  • Growth-minded attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed. (Typically Fairbanks / North Pole area only, with occasional site visits in Delta, Nenana, etc.)

  • Willing and able to pass a drug test.

Employment Requirements

The following requirements apply to all employees and are conditions of employment.

OSHA-10 Certification

All field and other applicable employees, including but not limited to field staff, foremen, and superintendents, are required to hold a valid OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification prior to beginning employment.

If you do not currently possess this certification, Alyeska Builders will provide access to an approved OSHA-10 training course at no cost to you. The training must be completed on your own time and submitted prior to your hire date.

Failure to provide proof of completed OSHA-10 training and certification may result in disqualification of hire or termination of employment.

Driving Record & Compliance

Positions requiring operation of a company vehicle or driving on behalf of Alyeska Builders are subject to motor vehicle record (MVR) reviews upon hire and annually thereafter.

Continued employment in a driving capacity is contingent upon maintaining:

  • A valid driver's license
  • An acceptable driving record
  • Compliance with company driving policies

Employees are required to report any motor vehicle violation, including but not limited to DUI, license suspension, revocation, or other traffic-related offenses within 48 hours of the incident.

Failure to report violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Continued Education

Alyeska Builders is committed to supporting ongoing employee development and maintaining high industry standards.

All employees are required to complete at least one company-approved continued education or training course every six months as a condition of continued employment.

Approved training materials are provided at no cost; however, training must be completed on the employee's own time.

Competitive compensation DOE, with bonus opportunities available.

Schedule Details

Our crew works year-round, and the ability to work overtime is required when necessary.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
