Job Description

BB&E is an employee-owned, full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both federal and private sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to our clients.

Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Construction Inspector to join our team providing technical support to the 341st Civil Engineer Squadron (341 CES) on-site at Malmstrom, AFB, Montana.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with and adhere to all instructions outlined in the 32 series Civil Engineer AFIs, Unified Facilities Criteria, and applicable building codes
  • Work with 341 CES/CENM Project Managers to ensure construction contractor compliance with approved plans and specifications for various construction contracts. Contracts may be for the construction or renovation of large, complex administrative office buildings, hospitals, aircraft maintenance and industrial facilities, or utility distribution systems
  • Coordinate with construction contractor representatives concerning work scheduling, interpretation of plans and specifications, selection of work methods, and acceptability of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contract requirements
  • Investigate and report on controversial situations which have either led to formal claims or are expected to lead to such claims by the construction contractor
  • Coordinate with the Contracting Officer to correct construction contract deficiencies, unacceptable material, or work performed to ensure compliance with the contract requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate construction contract progress schedules noting work progress, delays, or other problems that could interfere with construction, review construction contractor’s cost breakdowns, progress measurement data, reports of material and equipment used, and field inspection and survey reports in order to compute periodic payments and recommend approval/disapproval of contractor submittals and progress schedules
  • Prepare various documents, reports, and correspondence and maintain daily logs and safety reports addressing the progress of construction and the administration of the contract
  • Prepare construction daily reports and weekly activity reports
  • This role will require the candidate to stay overnight in the missile complex (3 nights/week roughly 33% of the time in the months of Apr-Oct)

Requirements

Key Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and a DoD Secret Clearance is required.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of construction inspection practices and QA/QC procedures
    • Familiarity with DoD construction standards (UFC/UFGS) and safety regulations
    • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint and advanced Adobe skills preferred
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated to improve organizational efficiency, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously

Experience & Education

  • Experience: A minimum of one (1) year in construction inspection.Education: A minimum of a high school diploma is required.

    • Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch ; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; lift up to 50 lbs.; speak clearly so listeners can understand; understand the speech of another person; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; see details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
    • Work Environment: Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions; occasionally required to navigate rough terrain, work in confined spaces, and operate at heights.
    • PPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work task
