The Construction Engineering Services Practice is seeking a Construction Inspector in Coeur d'Alene, ID.

In this position, you will provide on-site construction inspections and applicable documentation for transportation projects. This includes observation of construction work activities for compliance with plans and specifications, preparation of required contract documentation, and following prescribed Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures consistent with State and Local guidelines.

This role will be based out of Coeur d'Alene, ID and typically works a 40‑hour, Monday-Friday schedule, with most time spent in the field and occasional office work as needed. Standard hours are around 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but actual hours and shifts may vary based on contractor schedules and project needs. Evening or weekend work may be required, and we aim to provide advance notice whenever possible.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, perform, and monitor construction work activities in the field or office.
  • Inspect, observe and ensure a construction project is constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications.
  • Maintain accurate daily records (Inspector's Daily Reports, IDRs) of the work (labor, equipment, materials on hand, quantities).
  • Identify contract changes and assist in preparation of change orders.
  • Communicate effectively with the Contractors, Owners, Construction Manager, Project Documentation Engineer, or other field engineering staff.
  • Prepare field note records (FNRs) for documenting work completed and progress payments.
  • Coordinate for required materials sampling and testing.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with client representatives, contractors, the public, as well as peers and subordinates.
  • Excellent skills in working independently in the field.
  • The successful candidate must be able to effectively multitask and prioritize and track construction issues through completion.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, required for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of construction inspection experience working on roadways, bridges, and highway projects.
  • General contracting experience.
  • ITD project experience (ODOT and WSDOT are also considered).
