UNICO is seeking a seasoned Construction Inspector specializing in underground utilities (water, sewer, reclaimed water) in the San Diego area who also has experience with different types of infrastructure, including roadways and paving, structures (bridges), curb, gutter, sidewalks, and earthwork. Must have five years of applicable underground inspection experience. Must possess a thorough understanding of plans and specifications, Caltrans, and local agency requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (included but are not limited to):

· Provide inspections and complete documentation daily, including daily reports, project photographs, etc. Must have the ability to submit thorough and accurate reports at the end of each workday.

· Coordinate with clients/owners, other consultants, contractors, materials testers, and others involved with the project.

· Assist Resident Engineers and provide input on project schedule, extra work bills, potential change orders, and communication with businesses and residents.

· Read and interpret project plans and specifications

· Monitor construction Activities/Construction site for compliance with project documents, including collecting and checking material tags and certificates of compliance

· Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures

· Inspect contractor's approved traffic control plan to assure public safety, trenching work, removal/installation of underground utilities, including water, reclaimed water, sewer, electrical, and gas lines. Inspections may also include road and bridge construction (per Caltrans Standards), including checking grades, formwork, rebar placement, concrete batch tickets, curing methods, etc.

· Communicate with project team members and provide recommendations

· Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

· Underground utilities inspection experience required

· Excellent communication skills

· Working knowledge of MS Office Suite

· Proficiency in utilizing a computer to complete project documentation

· Thorough understanding of CAL OSHA standards and procedures, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), are highly preferred

· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening

· Clean driver's license and DMV record required

Education/Experience:

· Minimum 5 years' experience verifying the safe and compliant installation of buried utilities (water, sewer, electrical, and gas)

· Experience in inspecting transportation projects and structures

· Minimum 5 years' experience in a construction inspector's capacity

· High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)
