When you join Design Group as a Co-op or Intern, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

Barry-Wehmiller Design Group offers summer internships and 6-month co-ops for students pursuing construction management, civil engineering, or related degrees. Applicants should apply once and will be considered for the option that best aligns with their academic schedule.

  • Internships span 10–12 weeks over the summer.

  • Co-Ops are 6 months long and start in January 2026 or June 2026.

What You’ll Do

As a Construction Intern, you’ll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from pre-construction planning and cost estimating to on-site execution and project closeout. You’ll learn what it takes to bring industrial and manufacturing facilities to life, working side-by-side with professionals who manage complex construction projects across the country.

You will:

  • Support construction leaders and project managers with day-to-day project execution.

  • Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including schedules, budgets, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

  • Participate in site walks, field coordination meetings, and contractor evaluations.

  • Help track project progress and ensure construction activities align with design intent, safety standards, and client expectations.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, vendors, and contractors.

  • Gain experience in project management tools and software used to plan, execute, and monitor large-scale projects.

  • Learn to identify and communicate potential risks, issues, or opportunities in the field.

  • Support procurement, installation, and start-up activities under the guidance of senior construction professionals.

  • Experience the responsibility, pace, and collaboration of a full-time construction professional while developing your technical and leadership skills.

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • A strong desire to learn and grow in the construction industry.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Willingness to travel and spend time on-site at project locations.

The approximate pay range for this position is $25-$30/hr. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
