Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed
  • Assisting with day-to-day project coordination activities for construction and facility projects.
  • Supporting the development and tracking of project schedules, scopes, and milestones.
  • Participating in site walks, field observations, and progress inspections.
  • Assisting with documentation related to change orders, scope updates, and project approvals.
  • Supporting risk identification and tracking of potential construction or schedule impacts.
  • Assisting with coordination between internal teams, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Helping track project costs, expenditures, and budget updates.
  • Supporting the preparation of reports, presentations, and meeting materials for stakeholders.
  • Assisting with vendor and subcontractor communication and documentation.
  • Learning about regulatory requirements and approval processes relevant to shipyard construction projects.
  • Attending project meetings, recording notes, and tracking action items to completion.
  • Performing other related duties and projects as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

  • Construction & Project Management Knowledge: Basic understanding of construction processes, project planning, scheduling, and budgeting in an industrial or shipyard environment.
  • Safety & Compliance: Awareness of HPSI safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and best practices on construction sites.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Ability to assist with project documentation, change orders, scope updates, approvals, and report preparation.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify risks, track potential schedule or cost impacts, and support resolution efforts.
  • Organization & Coordination: Strong organizational skills to track project schedules, budgets, action items, and milestone progress.
  • Field Observation Skills: Ability to participate in site walks, inspections, and field observations while accurately reporting findings.
  • Adaptability & Learning Mindset: Willingness to learn construction management practices, participate in hands-on site activities, and support multiple projects as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Coursework or practical experience in construction processes, project planning, scheduling, or budgeting is preferred
  • Familiarity with project documentation, reporting, and approval processes is beneficial
  • Exposure to industrial or heavy construction environments, including shipyard or maritime projects, is a plus but not required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in construction, project management, or related industries is a plus
  • S. work authorization required - no sponsorship available

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
