Construction Management Program Director Description

South College Knoxville is seeking a Program Director to begin developing the Construction Management Program. This position based in Knoxville, TN with a minimum of 32 hours on campus required for administration, instructional, and office hour time.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop the initial program curriculum to include course descriptions, program sequencing, and course syllabi to encompass both course and program objectives.
  • Hire the faculty members (both adjunct and full-time) to support the program.
  • Work closely with prospective and continuing students.
  • Create community partnerships to support the program.

Requirements

Education

  • Master's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, or closely related field

Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior academic experience in a higher education setting as an instructor or program leader is required.
  • The successful candidate will be academically and experientially prepared in Construction management or a closely related field and must possess a graduate degree and practical experience in Construction Management (or a closely related field).
  • Significant professional experience in Construction Management or closely related field.
  • Proven teaching experience in higher education in courses such as construction planning and scheduling, construction cost estimating and management, and closely related content areas.
  • Ability to work with the companion and hybrid course functions through the College's Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas to develop and maintain course and program content, assessments, and support materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including students, colleagues, and industry professionals
  • Knowledge of construction management: Deep understanding of construction management theories, frameworks, and concepts; proficiency in analyzing and evaluating project management decisions and their implications for organizations
  • Ability to build relationships with community partners
  • Teaching Excellence: Ability to effectively teach undergraduate level courses in construction management, engineering, and technology; skill in developing course materials, syllabi, and assessments aligned with learning objectives; proficiency in employing diverse teaching methods to engage students and promote active learning
  • Networking: Ability to establish relationships and partnerships with the construction businesses in the local community
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Capacity to apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques to strategic decision-making processes
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Capability to collaborate with colleagues within the academic department and across disciplines; leadership skills in guiding student organizations and academic initiatives
