CONSTRUCTION SAFETY OFFICER

THE OPPORTUNITY

Fuel your career journey with Sun Construction! We're actively looking for a Construction Safety Officer responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment at construction sites. This role involves insuring OSHA compliance, implementing safety policies, conducting inspections, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with local safety regulations and company standards.

THE COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Hourly Wage:

$37.21 to$44.19 (DOE

)Benefits: (some benefits require passing probationary period and one-year vesting period)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure strict adherence to EM-385-1-1 and OSHA standards, often requiring 7+ years of experience.
  • APP & AHA Management: Develop, implement, and maintain the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all high-risk tasks.
  • Periodic Site Inspections: Perform, document, and manage a deficiency tracking system for daily safety inspections.
  • Hazard Mitigation & Work Stoppage: Identify hazards and possess the authority to stop work to protect personnel and property.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate all near-misses and accidents, providing detailed root cause analysis reports.
  • Training & Orientations: Conduct site-specific safety orientations, subcontractor training, and weekly tailgate meetings.
  • Subcontractor Oversight: Monitor safety performance of all subcontractors to ensure they meet federal contractual standards.
  • Interface with Officials: Serve as the primary contact for federal inspectors and contracting officers.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses. Educate & Train crews in a manner that mitigates potential hazards in the future,
  • Keep up to date safety records in company file system.
  • Conduct safety orientations and training for workers.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with project managers and supervisors on safety matters.
  • Develop a team culture where all field employees take safety seriously and conduct daily safety huddles to address and potential safety hazards for the tasks set out for the day ahead.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • Up to date certification in safety management
  • Proven experience in construction safety for commercial and government building construction
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent observation and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and leadership abilities

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be physically fit and able to move around job sites
