Project Superintendent – Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater

Position Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Project Superintendent for an established heavy civil contractor in the Lehi, Utah market.

This is a senior field leadership position for a Superintendent with extensive experience managing complex civil construction projects, particularly water/wastewater treatment facilities, water tanks, structural concrete, utilities, and related infrastructure.

The Superintendent will have primary responsibility for field execution, including crews, subcontractors, equipment, safety, quality, scheduling, and day-to-day jobsite performance.

The ideal candidate brings 10–15+ years of relevant construction experience, understands how to build complex civil projects in the field, and can effectively develop and manage detailed look-ahead schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day field operations on complex heavy civil construction projects
  • Take ownership of overall jobsite performance, schedule, safety, and quality
  • Develop and manage 3–5 week look-ahead schedules
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and project resources
  • Direct skilled laborers, equipment operators, foremen, and other field personnel
  • Communicate expectations to Assistant Superintendents, General Foremen, and Project Foremen
  • Hold field leadership and subcontractors accountable for schedule and performance
  • Coordinate work across multiple trades and scopes
  • Identify potential schedule problems and develop solutions before they impact project milestones
  • Work closely with Project Managers and project leadership to maintain project objectives
  • Monitor manpower requirements and workforce scheduling
  • Assist with equipment planning and selection
  • Maintain project documentation, redlines, record drawings, and required regulatory paperwork
  • Ensure field activities comply with plans, specifications, quality requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Enforce jobsite safety requirements and maintain a strong safety culture
  • Mentor Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and other developing field leaders
  • Drive productivity while reducing waste and unnecessary project variation
  • Maintain strong communication between field operations and project management

Required Experience

  • 10–15+ years of relevant construction experience preferred
  • Strong Superintendent, General Foreman, Project Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, or equivalent field leadership experience
  • Experience with water/wastewater treatment plant construction and/or water tank construction
  • Strong heavy civil construction background
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage 3–5 week look-ahead schedules
  • Technical understanding of:
    • Structural and civil concrete
    • Formwork
    • Excavation
    • Underground utilities
    • Mechanical work and piping
    • Elevations and grades
    • Construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to coordinate multiple crews and subcontractors simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, logistics, manpower, and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable holding crews and subcontractors accountable for performance

Education

One of the following is preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Project Management
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Equivalent combination of field experience, technical expertise, and construction leadership

Extensive relevant field experience will be strongly considered.

Technology

Experience with construction technology and project management platforms is preferred, including:

  • Procore or similar construction management software
  • Bluebeam
  • ComputerEase
  • Microsoft Office
  • Digital scheduling and project documentation tools

Certifications

Preferred certifications include:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • First Aid/AED
  • Confined Space
  • Fall Protection
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one after hire

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a hands-on heavy civil Superintendent who understands how to build the work, not someone whose experience has been limited primarily to administrative project management.

Experience with water/wastewater treatment plants or water tanks is particularly important. Candidates should be comfortable managing excavation, concrete, utilities, piping, equipment, subcontractors, and self-perform field crews while maintaining control of the project's short-term schedule.

This position is best suited for a field leader who can walk onto a complex civil project, understand what needs to happen next, develop a realistic look-ahead plan, and hold the entire field team accountable for executing it safely and efficiently.
