How YOU will make a Difference:
HMA is embarking on a multi‑year transformation initiative focused on modernizing HMA’s claims processing capabilities. Over the next three years, we are transitioning to a new, more efficient claims system that will strengthen accuracy, improve member and client experience, and support long‑term operational growth. This project brings together teams across HMA to rethink processes, adopt new technologies, and build a stronger foundation for the future. Each role supporting Project Phoenix plays a meaningful part in shaping how we serve our members for years to come.
What YOU will do:
Process Discovery & Investigation
- Conduct deep‑dive process discovery sessions with SMEs, using probing, investigative questioning to uncover why work is done—not just how
- Identify legacy workarounds, system‑driven behaviors, and historical practices masquerading as “requirements”
- Distinguish true business rules from implementation choices tied to prior tools or platforms
Continuous & Lean Process Improvement
- Apply Lean principles to identify waste, redundancy, bottlenecks, handoff friction, and rework within current‑state workflows
- Challenge “we’ve always done it this way” thinking with data‑driven insights and practical alternatives
- Highlight opportunities for simplification, standardization, automation, or elimination before workflows transition to a new claims system
Future‑State Workflow Design
- Lead collaborative workshops with operations SMEs and technical partners to design system‑agnostic future‑state workflows
- Translate findings into clear, structured documentation that reflects business intent, not system limitations
- Ensure workflows support compliance, scalability, operational efficiency, and member/provider experience
Stakeholder Partnership & Rapport Building
- Build trust and strong working relationships with SMEs by balancing curiosity, respect for expertise, and thoughtful challenge
- Communicate observations and recommendations in a way that promotes alignment rather than defensiveness
- Influence without authority by grounding recommendations in business outcomes, risk reduction, and long‑term value
Transition to Implementation
- Partner with Business Process Writer to translate validated workflows into rules for technical requirements
- Support operational validation by ensuring future‑state designs are understood, intentional, and free of unintended consequences
Requirements
Knowledge, Experience and Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Information Systems, or related field
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in process analysis, process improvement, or business operations
- Strong understanding of process mapping methodologies
- Proven experience supporting or leading process improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.)
- Proficiency with process modeling tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, Bizagi, ARIS)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and build insights
- Experience with workflow automation tools or platforms (e.g., Power Automate, UiPath, ServiceNow, Appian)
- Familiarity with SQL, Excel (advanced), or other data analysis tools
- Understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Stakeholder management and the ability to influence without authority
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and quality
