SummaryA Controls Specialist (CS) is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled, and emergency service on products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Defense commensurate with appropriate certification.The CS is required to establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and others as appropriate. The CS is also required to maintain continuous communication with Regional Offices and their direct manager.

Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesRole

Conduct installation, testing, and troubleshooting services for the control systems on FMD engine linesRely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsDiagnose problems and develop solutions for qualified enginesWork independently on qualified enginesMay occasionally be assigned to shop duties such as general machining, part inspections, assembly, testing, and warehouse work

Technical

Stay current on Engineering Change Orders, Field Service Change Notices, and Service Information LettersDocument work performed on Service Reports and write Condition Found Reports

Safety

Operate safely in accordance with published safety guidelinesWear appropriate PPE per company policiesReport all work-related accidents or injuries immediatelyComplete annual safety training requirements per the regional safety schedule

Administration

Provide accurate and timely reporting (timecards, expense reports, mileage, project closures, etc.)Obtain and maintain certification based on internal Service Progression RequirementsProvide estimated time of arrival to the customer when applicableMaintain company property (vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, etc.)

Customer Satisfaction

Communicate effectively with internal and external customersComplete and provide maintenance documentation upon assignment completionStrive to provide all customers with a "first time fix"Maintain customer satisfaction rates according to company guidelines

Qualifications and Educational RequirementsEducation and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED requiredPrior FMD Associate Controls Specialist experience preferredOne or more of the following required:

Associate Degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or Power Generation Technology with four years' experience in a related field (including two years of electrical/motion controls experience), orFour years' experience in a related field (including three years of electrical/motion controls experience)

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of two- and four-stroke engine operating theory (preferred)Basic understanding of gas compression and related hazards (preferred)Understanding of electrical systems and associated hazards (required)Proficiency in using electrical test equipment, including:

MultimetersPressure calibratorsSignal generatorsProcess meters

Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical line diagrams and blueprintsDiagnose and repair electrical problemsWorking knowledge of pneumatic, PLC, and electronic engine controls, including:

Electrical circuit diagnosis and meter usage for:

VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 125VDC, 120VAC, 240VAC, 480VAC, 3 phase

Allen Bradley PLC (RSLogix 500 and RSLogix 5000) or equivalentHMI programming (PanelBuilder 32, FactoryTalk View ME) or equivalentAutomation system diagnosis and troubleshootingEnd devices for the following signal types:

RTDs, Thermocouples, 4-20mA sensors, Relays/Solenoids, Magnetic pickups, Hall Effect proximity sensors, and related cabling/terminals

Experience with standby generator and engine operation and maintenanceStrong organizational and planning skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishProficiency in Microsoft OfficeStrong mechanical aptitudeValid driver's license and eligibility for company credit cardTravel required up to 75% (domestic and international, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency travel on short notice)Must hold a valid U.S. Passport or be able to obtain one within 3 months of hireMust meet NOFORN requirements for access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information - proof of U.S. Citizenship required (U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate)
