Job Summary:

The key role of this position is to serve as a subject matter expert to the team to develop complex hybrid control systems. There will be no direct reports but will help influence engineers in multiple Caterpillar locations.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide direction for team members to develop and execute complex hybrid control systems including generators, inverters, and battery systems.
  • Ensure collaboration between departments and divisions working together to ensure a cohesive system is achieved on time.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define and meet product requirements.
  • Provide guidance on long term strategy and direction for controls, inverters and battery energy storage systems.
  • Provide guidance and support for regulatory compliance and certification.
  • Research new methods for system and site control.
  • Develop functional requirements, design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of products and components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost.
  • Guiding the evolution of technical design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing.
  • Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.

What you have:

Degree Requirement

  • This position requires a bachelor's or master's degree in an accredited Engineering, Technology, or Computer Science curriculum

Technical Requirement

  • Extensive engineering experience (including product application, testing, and process design experience in electric power generation, electrical & electronic control systems, inverter technologies or electrical power distribution systems)
  • Familiarity with Codesys, Matlab, Simulink

  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills. Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics.

Product Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.

  • Manages a significant piece of a successful product roadmap.
  • Oversee all phases, activities and deliverables of the product development methodology.

Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools.

  • Coordinates execution of test plans, including resources, strategy, schedules, processes and tools.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques.

  • Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
  • Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.
  • Monitors machine performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.
  • Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

  • This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week.
  • The primary work location is Mossville, IL or Griffin, GA
  • Domestic relocation assistance is offered

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
