Job Description

We are a multi-discipline environmental engineering firm specializing in water, wastewater, and civil infrastructure projects throughout New England. Our control systems team plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and commissioning reliable PLC/SCADA systems that keep essential infrastructure running.

We're looking for a hands-on Control Systems Specialist who enjoys troubleshooting, working closely with engineers and operators, and seeing projects from design through startup and onto support. Experience with water and wastewater process and process control is a plus.

Responsibilities

You'll work as part of our Engineering Design and SCADA Implementation teams to deliver PLC/SCADA systems from concept through commissioning:

  • Develop, modify, and commission PLC and SCADA systems for municipal water and wastewater facilities

  • Configure and support HMI/SCADA applications, alarms, trends, and operator interfaces
  • Perform onsite startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting for new and existing systems
  • Control panel design, testing, and field modifications
  • Diagnose and improve existing control logic to meet evolving operational needs
  • Maintain clear documentation: control narratives, PLC/HMI backups, change logs, and O&M content
  • Travel to project sites throughout New England (generally day trips; limited overnight travel)

Essential Functions

This role is ideal for someone who's already been in the field and is eager for professional growth; not a brand-new graduate, but not necessarily a PE either.

Read and understand process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), control loop drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams

  • Diagnosing and modifying existing programs to meet customer needs
  • Familiarity with field instrumentation devices, control components (relays, timers, power supplies) and industrial drive systems (VFDs, soft starters, motor contactors)
  • Able to build collaborative relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization and time management skills

Experience and Technical Skills

We value real depth over buzzwords. Practical experience with some of these is necessary to succeed in this role

  • 3+ years of hands-on PLC/SCADA experience (Water/Wastewater experience a plus)
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • P&IDs
  • Control narratives
  • Construction Drawings, Loop sheets, Control Panel Drawings Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience troubleshooting live low voltage systems safely and methodically
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a multi-discipline team
  • PLC platforms such as:
  • Allen-Bradley (Logix 500 / Logix 5000)
  • Schneider Modicon
  • SCADA / HMI platforms such as:
  • Trihedral VTScada
  • GE Fix
  • Maple Systems or similar OITs
  • Industrial networking:

  • Basic understanding of managed switches and remote access
  • Field devices and equipment:
  • VFDs, motor starters, relays, power supplies
  • Common water/wastewater instrumentation
  • Windows-based systems and basic IT understanding

Education

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Controls, Robotics, or similar (Equivalent experience considered)
  • Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) is a plus, not a requirement
