Salary Range: $110,000–$120,000

About the Role
Co-op Food Stores is seeking an experienced and collaborative Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role ensures accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, maintains strong internal controls, and manages a team of three accounting professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
•* Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
•* Partner with teams across the organization
•* Coach and develop accounting staff, supporting growth and advancement
•* Accounting Operations
•* Oversee month-end and year-end close
•* Ensure timely AP, AR, payroll, debt payments, and reconciliations
•* Maintain chart of accounts, inventory costing, and financial records
Reporting & Analysis
•* Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for leadership and the Board
•* Support budgeting, variance analysis, and financial decision-making
•* Assist with annual reporting and key financial metrics
Compliance
•* Coordinate annual audits
•* Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting and tax requirements
Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications
•* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience
•* 6+ years of progressive accounting experience (retail or multi-location a plus)
•* 3+ years managing an accounting team
•* CPA or CMA required
•* Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (Acumatica preferred)
•* Organized, detail-oriented and collaborative
