The Controls Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting issues, managing projects, and providing guidance and training related to instrumentation, electrical, and controls systems.
Job Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Technical troubleshooting for Controls, Electrical, Instrumentation, and some Mechanical Systems
- Programming (and consultation) for continuous improvement projects
- Management of small engineering projects
- Attend daily production, technical services, and management meetings
- Monitor status of production equipment and support maintenance as needed
- Programming PLC's and HMI's for implementing improvement projects
- Completing formal root cause analyses and recommending/completing necessary corrective actions
- Some 'after hours - on call' plant support for controls, automation, or advanced electrical troubleshooting.
- Training for plant E&I technicians
- All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
EDUCATION
- B.S. Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent technical certification (5 years additional experience can substitute in most cases)
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years working in industrial manufacturing preferably working within or alongside maintenance
SKILLS
Must have:
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Ability to program PLC's
Servo/Frequency Drive Troubleshooting and Programming
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
Understanding of machine networking
Understanding of electrical drawings
Perform, teach, and communicate root cause analysis
Nice to have:
Ability to create databases
Project management experience
Experience with:
Allen Bradley Control Logix (RS 5000)
Siemens S7 PLC/HMI
Proface HMI
Intouch Wonderware
Yaskawa Motion Controller PLC
Omron PLC
Drives (Danfoss, Siemens, Yaskawa, Omron, Allen Bradley)
Fanuc Robotics
Vision Systems
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to access all areas of the manufacturing facility including use of stairs, ladders, and the occasional powered lift.
- Able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day in normal office conditions
