Hello, we're Golden Valley Electric Association GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities. Your role as a controls Engineer As a Controls Engineer at Golden Valley Electric Association in Healy, AK, you will support the safe and reliable operation of the Healy Power Plant by administering and maintaining control systems, assisting with troubleshooting, and collaborating with plant personnel on technical solutions. You will contribute to system improvements, documentation, and data analysis while working closely with engineering teams, operations staff, and external vendors in a fast-paced industrial environment. What you need to be successful To excel as a Controls Engineer at Golden Valley Electric Association in Healy, AK, candidates should have a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or demonstrate an equivalent level of relevant work experience. A valid Alaska driver's license is required. Candidates with a strong educational background may be considered even if they do not meet the full experience requirements. Prior experience with ABB Symphony and Allen Bradley systems is preferred, as is familiarity with coal combustion, steam systems, power generation, and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Successful applicants will have the ability to interpret electrical schematics, analyze technical processes, and develop engineered solutions under varying constraints. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with plant staff, vendors, and other departments. The position requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, often under pressure or in demanding plant environments. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent relevant experience Valid Alaska driver's license Experience with or the ability to rapidly learn control systems used in electrical utility, GMS/EMS, or industrial process environments READY TO JOIN OUR TEAM?
