Job Description

The Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operational tasks assigned by the Director of Safety & Emergency Management in support of Safety and Emergency Management functions at one or more Valley Health System (VHS) Hospitals. The Coordinator may assist in providing support to VHS hospitals and all associated VHS business entities within proximity to these assigned campuses. Reports directly to the Director, Safety and Emergency Management. Conducts fire drill, environmental rounding and safety inspections.

Responsibilities and Duties

Assists in conducting annual inventory of mass casualty equipment and supplies.

Assists with conducting Risk Assessments related to Safety & Emergency Management, the Physical Environment, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management.

Attends Pre-Construction meetings.

Prepares reports and provides education and training related to Safety & Emergency Management as assigned.

Assists in the annual Hazardous Chemical Inventory.

Helps the facility Safety & Emergency Management Manager(s) prepare for disaster drills and participates in drills and assists in actual disaster response.

Assists facility Safety & Emergency Manager in maintaining hospital-based plans and programs designed to ensure that all assigned VHS hospitals and business entities maintain a state of compliance readiness with regard to DNV CMS, OSHA, DEQ, DEP, EPA and other State and Federal requirements as required for Safety, Life Safety, Emergency Managment and other standards and regulations.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Associates degree or equivalent or emergency management related experience preferred.

Experience

(1) year of experience in healthcare, emergency management, fire and rescue, military, National Guard, Reserves, with FEMA and hazardous materials training.

Certification & Licensure

Valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

Required to obtain training in Incident Command 100, 200, and 700 in the first year.

Required to obtain OSHA 40 hours Safety Certification for General Industry within the first two years.

Customer oriented with sufficient understanding of system operations with ability to accurately assess priorities required.

Excellent communication skills required.

Ability to effectively and professionally lead and communicate with staff at all levels within the organization required.
