Location: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; on-site

Employment Type: Full-time with benefits (W-2)

Compensation: $145,000 to $170,000 annual, commensurate with experience and forensic or expert-testimony expertise

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8-hour shifts or 4-day 10-hour shifts as assigned; Atlantic Standard Time

Agency Environment: Territorial correctional healthcare: contracted clinical staffing supporting the medical division of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections; clinical scheduling and supervision by the Government Medical Director and Health Service Administrator

Position Overview

CLF Consultants LLC seeks a Licensed Psychologist for a full-time correctional position with the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections on St. Thomas. This role is the assessment backbone of the facility mental health program: psychological testing and interpretation, comprehensive reporting, classification support, psychotherapy, and expert testimony.

The successful candidate is a doctoral-level psychologist who finds professional satisfaction in rigorous assessment work with real consequences: housing decisions, treatment planning, crisis response, and court proceedings. The role offers island residency, a defined schedule, and a patient population for whom skilled psychological care is genuinely scarce. Mainland candidates receive relocation assistance and full Virgin Islands licensure support.

Forensic, correctional, and public-sector psychologists, including those seeking a first island engagement, are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, score, and interpret a wide variety of personality and psychological evaluation instruments and prepare comprehensive psychological reports
  • Support interdisciplinary classification by identifying behavioral, emotional, substance-related, and personality factors and developing individualized program recommendations
  • Complete evaluations and reports for patients presenting sudden behavioral change, suicidal preoccupation, depression, anxiety, psychosomatic complaints, situational crisis, or long-term disciplinary segregation effects
  • Organize and facilitate individual and group psychotherapy on a regular schedule
  • Conduct individual treatment and crisis intervention sessions on an as-needed and emergency basis
  • Provide assessment and referral services for staff referred by supervisors or self-referred for substance use or emotional concerns affecting job performance
  • Perform evaluations of cadet applicants
  • Testify in court as an expert witness and maintain strict confidentiality across all duties

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited program
  • Active psychologist licensure in the U.S. Virgin Islands, or active U.S. licensure with eligibility for Virgin Islands licensure (CLFC supports the application; VI licensure must be completed before start)
  • Demonstrated competence in psychological and personality assessment, scoring, and interpretation
  • Minimum 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience
  • Strong report writing and clinical documentation skills
  • Ability to pass facility security clearance and background screening

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Correctional, forensic, or public-safety psychology experience
  • Experience with forensic evaluation, risk assessment instruments, and expert testimony
  • Pre-employment and fitness-for-duty evaluation experience
  • Group psychotherapy facilitation experience
  • Existing ties to the U.S. Virgin Islands or Caribbean region

Why Practice in the U.S. Virgin Islands

  • No passport required: the U.S. Virgin Islands is a U.S. territory, so U.S. citizens travel with a standard government ID.
  • U.S. licensure standards and a U.S. dollar economy, with CLFC support for Virgin Islands licensure by endorsement (typically 4 to 8 weeks).
  • Caribbean island lifestyle on St. Croix or St. Thomas: year-round climate, beaches, and a close-knit community.
  • Mission-driven work serving a medically underserved population where your clinical judgment has direct impact.
  • Relocation and licensure support so the move is straightforward, not a hurdle.

Compensation and Engagement Details

  • Annual salary range: $145,000 to $170,000 (W-2 full-time with benefits)
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holiday schedule
  • 401(k) with employer match, eligible after 90 days of employment
  • Relocation assistance provided as a stipend (not a repayable loan) for qualified mainland candidates
  • Virgin Islands licensure application support provided by CLFC, with licensure fees reimbursed
  • Defined 40-hour schedule; protected assessment and therapy time
  • Multi-year contract potential aligned with the contract base term and renewal structure
  • Occurrence-based professional liability (malpractice) coverage arranged for the engagement
  • Housing assistance or stipend to offset island cost of living
  • Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) reflecting the U.S. Virgin Islands market
  • Annual continuing education (CME/CEU) allowance and licensure renewal support
